BJP accuses Cong of registering illegal voters

Last Updated 26 March 2019, 18:20 IST

Congress has been trying to enrol the names of Assam and Bangladesh immigrants in the voters' list in Kodagu, alleged BJP district spokesperson Abhimanyu Kumar.

Addressing reporters in Madikeri on Tuesday, he said that the Congress had alleged that the names of their party workers are being removed from the voters' list by the election officers. If this is true, Congress should produce proof for the same.

He further said that the Congress is desperate for power and in a bid to win elections through unfair means, Congress has been trying to add the names of labourers from Assam and Bangladesh who have come to work in the plantations of Kodagu, in the voters' list.

Abhimanyu meanwhile said that the two MLAs of BJP have carried out development works in the district and the BJP does not have to follow any illegal means to gain victory.

"Congress and JD(S) coalition candidate C H Vijayshankar has called BJP a communal party. Why he did not realise this when he was in BJP?" he asked.

He added that BJP candidate Pratap Simha is a clean politician and does not have any charges of corruption. He has carried out honest works for the development of the Mysore-Kodagu constituency.

Leader Subrahmanya Upadhyaya asked what was the contribution by Vijayshankar to the district when he was the forest minister.

Ravi Kalappa alleged that around Rs 200 crore which was contributed to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund after the natural disaster in Kodagu has not been utilised efficiently.

District BJP unit vice president Arun Kumar and BJP city unit president Mahesh Jaini were present in the press meet.
