‘DK MP failed to solve problems of industries’

Sitting Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel has failed to solve the problems faced by cashew, beedi, tile and other small industries in the district, many pro-people organisations have stated.

They have appealed to the voters to defeat Kateel.

Speaking to reporters here, DYFI State President Muneer Katipalla said that after the BJP started winning the Lok Sabha election in Dakshina Kannada on the basis of Hindutva ideology, the district had faced a set back in all sectors.

Dalits, tribals, fishermen and members of other backward classes have lost their political identity. The BJP is seeking vote in the name of Modi and fake patriotism, he said.

The issues of water crisis, pollution, incomplete works of national highway and flyovers and illegal toll gates operating in Dakshina Kannada district have not been raised by the BJP during the election, Katipalla added.

"In fact, BJP workers who had taken part in Vijaya Sankalpa rally in Mangaluru on Saturday, were raising provocative slogans, thus attempting to disrupt the social fabric of the district," he alleged.

He said that in spite of district being an educational hub, it has failed to generate employment in the last few decades under BJP regime. The increase in communal riots have been a set back for the development of the district.
"In spite of tripartite agreement signed an year ago, the beedi industry owners have failed to pay Rs 220 per 1,000 beedi rolled by the beedi workers in the district. The BJP MP has failed to raise the issue of the beedi workers, he alleged.

Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha Hasiru Sene State Secretary Ravi Kiran Punacha said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised to implement the recommendations of the M S Swaminathan Commission and double the income of farmers.

"However, the promises have not been fulfilled."

He said as per the M S Swaminathan Commission's recommendations, the MSP for paddy should have been Rs 2,340.

"However, this year government has announced Rs 1,750 per quintal of paddy as MSP. The Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana has failed to help the farming community," Punacha added.
