Encroachments on footpath cleared

The CMC initiated a drive to clear the encroachment of footpaths at Shettarabeedi in Chikkamagaluru on Saturday.

The cement steps constructed on footpaths were cleared on the occasion.

CMC sanitation supervisor Srinivas told DH, "Shopkeepers had constructed cement steps on the footpath. After placing a stone slab on the steps, they were engaged in selling vegetables and other items. The encroachment of the footpath was affecting the free movement of pedestrians."

CMC Commissioner Paramesh had inspected the spot recently. He has directed the officials to suspend the license of those shops that encroach upon footpaths.
