The work on the construction of houses at Made near NH 275 (Madikeri-Sampaje) is in progress and it is likely to be completed by month-end.

The labourers from North India are working tirelessly for the completion of the work by May 31.

The district administration had acquired 11 acres of land on survey number 399 at Made village and initiated the construction of 82 houses. The work on 74 houses has been completed. The remaining eight houses will be completed shortly, said contractors and labourers to DH.

Initially, the district administration has identified 78.46 acres of land at Karnangeri, Biligeri, Galibeedu, Made and Jamburu (Madapura) for 770 sites. The work on the construction of houses is in progress at Karnangeri, Made and Jamburu.

Thirty five houses have already been distributed to the beneficiaries at Karnangeri. The work on laying of road, water supply and electricity connections are in progress which will be completed within a week.

The work on the construction of 200 houses by Infosys Foundation at Jamburu is also in progress. However, many feel that the houses may not be available for the victims at Jamburu before the monsoon.

An engineer at Made said, “We will distribute houses to the victims before the onset of monsoon at Made. About 150 to 200 houses will be completed at Jamburu by June 15. The remaining will be delayed.”

The Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation is constructing two bedroom houses at Made at an estimated cost of
Rs 9.85 lakh. There is no fear of landslides for the constructed houses at Made. Barring six houses, the remaining houses have reached the roof level. The work on installing tiles is in progress.

The houses will be distributed to the landslide victims of Jodupala, Madenadu, Made, Katakeri, 2nd Monnangeri, Karthoji, Sampaje, Ramakolli.

The victims said that though more than 100 people have lost their houses at 2nd Monnageri, only 50 persons have been included in the list of beneficiaries.

“A few will get houses before the monsoon in the first phase. The remaining beneficiaries will continue to get a monthly rent of Rs 10,000. People need not be anxious over failure to get houses. The houses will be distributed in a phased manner,” said an official.
