Last Updated 19 March 2019, 18:33 IST

IGP (Southern range) Umesh Kumar visited 139 polling booths in Suntikoppa and inspected the preparations for the Lok Sabha elections.

Speaking at a meeting at St Antony's School, he said that the issues related to the elections should be brought to the notice of the concerned officials.

"The locals should not be carried away by confusions created by a few miscreants," he added.

District Vehicle Drivers and Labourers Association President Anna Sharif said that more than 150 rented vehicles are being used by officials on election duties.

The drivers of these vehicles are not getting a chance to exercise their franchise. Provisions should be made for them to cast their vote, he said.

Nakuru Shirangala Gram Panchayat member Ambekal Chandru said that the plantation owners are not granting leave to the plantation workers. This results in the labourers getting deprived of their right to vote. Necessary measures should be initiated in this regard.

Superintendent of Police Dr Suman D Pennekar assured of doing the needful.

Somwarpet taluk DySP Dinakara Shetty and tahsildar Govindaraj were present.
