People should not have inferiority complex regarding the profession they are in, advised Traffic Station PSI G K Basavaraju.

He was addressing the gathering at the Labour Day programme organised by the District Two-Wheeler Mechanics’ Association in town on Wednesday.

He said one should respect the professions they are in. “Hard work and commitment in the profession help achieve success,” the PSI reminded.

Association District president Aboobakkar said that the Association provides financial assistance if a member dies while at work. A bike jatha was carried out on the occasion by Association members.

Role of labourers

Labourers play a vital role in the development of the country, said H H Devaraj, state vice president of the JD(S).

Speaking at the May Day programme, organised by the JD(S) Labour Wing, Devaraj said, “The country will not develop if the labourers are neglected by the government.”

Ranjan Ajith Kumar, JD(S) district president, said, “The government should give priority to provide security to the lives of the labour class. There is a need to generate employment.”

Avail facilities

The District Unorganised Labourers’ Congress Committee organised the Labour Day programme in town. Sweets were distributed to labourers at the Azad Park.

Congress leader A N Mahesh said, “The government has implemented several welfare programmes for the upliftment of the unorganised sector of labourers. The workers should avail of the benefits of such programmes.”
