The residents of Karmikara Colony in Vinobanagara, Kudremukh, have urged the deputy commissioner to sanction sites for them.

Deputy Commissioner Dr Bagadi Gautham convened a meeting which was attended by daily wage workers.

The labourers said, “After the closing of mining at Kudremukh, we have come to the streets without any alternative livelihood. About 10 acres of land on survey number 85 was sanctioned near Kalasa in the past. However, the sanctioned land was not distributed to us.”

According to an estimate, there are 168 families residing in Vinobanagara. The sites should be distributed immediately, said the residents.

Reacting to this, the deputy commissioner directed the Revenue Department officials to initiate measures to distribute sites for the daily wage labourers in the identified 10 acres of land.

The residents of Kudremukh and surrounding areas accused the Forest Department of coming in the way of the development of the road at Bilagal in Kudremukh National Park jurisdiction. To which, the deputy commissioner replied that the road can be developed after availing permission from the Forest Department.

The residents also raised the issue of confusion over the survey of Deemed Forest land.
