BJP spokesperson Harikrishna Bantwal has said that former minister Ramanath Rai had no moral right to speak about Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Tuesday, he condemned Rai for terming Kateel as a lethargic MP.

"Rai has levelled allegations against Nalin Kumar Kateel out of menstruation after having lost the recently concluded assembly elections. If Rai had implemented good works in the district, then why did the voters not elect him? The good works should have helped him to secure more votes rather than losing by a margin of 16,000 votes,” he said.

“During his tenure Rai supported sand and timber mafia, besides transferring efficient officers from Dakshina Kannada,” he said and added: "Rai’s close aide, who is also a Zilla Panchayat member, had allegedly taken up stone quarry on a government land without any permission. It was only after the High Court order that the officials shut down the quarry a few days ago,” he said.

Bantwal said : “Rai is trying to get ticket to contest the upcoming Parliamentary election. He has been issuing statements to prove his political existence. It is time he introspected himself."
