Savemaradi Kaval waits for basic facilities

Incomplete work on road and drains, houses and huts without electricity connections, poles without streetlights, women fetching water from far off places and over 20 children sitting at home without angawadi facilities, are all common scenes at Savemaradi Kaval village in Koranahalli in Ajjampura.

The families have been living in the village for the last several years.

The residents alleged that the officials have neglected Savemaradi Kaval. In spite of bringing the issue to the notice of the higher authorities, no measures have been taken to provide basic facilities.

The village development under MGNREGS project, Ashraya schemes for the site less, housing schemes for houseless, and electricity connections under Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana have remained a mirage for the residents.

In spite of the village having 15 to 20 below three to four-year-old kids, the village has no mini anganwadi facility and the children have to go all the way to Koranahalli which is 1.5 km away from the village.

“Small kids cannot walk such a long distance. We have to carry them. If we take them to anganwadi, we will lose our labour. Hence, we carry them to our work site. At least if the mini anganwadi is opened, it will benefit pregnant women and adolescents. The Women and Child Development Department should look into the issue,” said a resident, Mangala.

“We do not have electricity connection. Children find it difficult to read,” said Shakeela, another resident.

Women have warned off boycotting the election if the authorities failed to provide basic facilities to the village.

“The followers of elected representatives visit us during election seeking votes and promise the solving of issues after the election. After winning the election, they do not turn to the village again,” said women in the village.
