Villagers of Uppara Basavanahalli, near Tarikere town, protesting against the government’s apathy to construct a railway bridge have decided to boycott the upcoming Lok Sabha and Town Municipal Council elections.

The villagers have even erected a banner on Kodicamp Circle - Uppara Basavanahalli road declaring that they have decided to boycott the elections.

The villagers said for the past 40 years they were demanding an under-bridge at the railway track passing through the village.

The elected representatives and officials from the railway department have ignored their demand.

The students, traders and farmers were facing many difficulties, due to lack of a railway bridge, the villagers added.

Fed up with the apathy, villagers have decided to boycott the elections, they said.
