Last Updated 16 December 2018, 19:29 IST

MP Pratap Simha said that the BJP is willing to play the Opposition in the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC).

He made this statement after the MCC poll results were announced, in Mysuru on Monday.

BJP emerged the single largest party by securing 22 seats. However, it failed to get a clear majority. The civic body has 65 wards. While JD(S) bagged 18 seats, Congress claimed 19. Independents cornered six seats.

"JD(S) is in a coalition with the Congress in the state government. It is up to JD(S) to join with BJP in MCC, or not," Simha remarked. It may be recalled that JD(S) and BJP were partners priorly.

Cong-JD(S) to allign?

However, JD(S) and Congress are likely to form the Mysuru City Corporation Council for the term 2018-2023. As many as 33 seats are needed to form the council.

Congress with its 19 seats and JD(S) with its 18 seats, might enter into an alliance.

Congress City President R Murthy said: "Congress party will not join BJP. We may go with JD(S). It is yet to be finalised," he added.
