Minister faces ire of Banjara voters

Some members of Banjara community entered into a verbal duel with Congress leaders for campaigning in favour of Congress candidate Mallikarjun Kharge here and the enraged residents threw stones at Muzrai Minister P T Parameshwara Naik’s vehicle damaging its windowpanes on Wednesday.

Fuming at Naik when he visited a tanda in Chittapur taluk, the residents raised slogans in favour of BJP candidate Umesh Jadhav.

wBesieging the vehicles of the Congress leaders, they entered into a verbal duel and even tried to assault them. However, the police intervened and controlled the situation. Sensing trouble, the minister went back without canvassing.

On Tuesday also, similar incidents occurred at some tandas in Gurmitkal Assembly segment. The residents staged protests when former ministers Revu Naik Belamagi, Baburao Chavan and Congress leader Subash Rathod visited some tandas for canvassing in favour of Kharge.

Chavan and Rathod joined Congress recently after BJP denied them tickets to contest the election.  The leaders tried to address meetings at Gurmitkal. However, some members of the Lambani community opposed it and they were forced to go back.
