Movement of night traffic continues in Bandipur

Administration has not received HC order effecting the ban

Chamarajanagar Deputy Commissioner Manojkumar Meena told Deccan Herald that the district administration has not received the copy of the Monday’s High Court order. “Once it reaches us, we will  implement it in letter and spirit. I have read about the order in newspapers. As soon the order copy is received, a press notification will be issued for the convenience of general public about the dusk-to-dawn ban on vehicles movement”.

He reiterated that the district administration has proposed to impose a ban on movement of vehicles through Bandipur National Park between 9 pm and 6 am. However, two KSRTC buses will be allowed in the interest of people settled in Bandipur and all emergency vehicles such as ambulance.

Deputy Conservator of Forests of Bandipur had submitted a proposal to the district administration to restrict movement of vehicles through the park as it was causing problems for wild animals. Based on the proposal, the DC had issued an order in this regard.

As per the details available, around 15-20 vehicles pass through Bandipur National Park every minute. More than 100 trucks carrying vegetables from Mysore and Chamarajanagar and 250-300 sand laden trucks pass through this park every day.

This is apart from thousands of tourist vehicles that ply on this road. A number of animals had been killed in accidents during night.
