Congress leader and Chamarajanagar MP R Dhruvanarayana on Monday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to sanction aid to the victims of the Chamrajnagara temple tragedy from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund. Dhruvanarayana raised the issue of death of 14 devotees at the Maramma temple at Sulwadi village of Hanur taluk in the House.

“Fourteen people have already lost their lives and eight people are critical among 100 people hospitalised. Hence, I request the Union government to consider this kind of tragedy as national disaster and release compensation from Prime Minister’s Relief Fund in the interest of poor families,” he said making a special mention in the Lok Sabha.

He said there were 150 affected families who were Below Poverty Line and were badly in need of funds from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund. Dhruvanarayana has also sought an appointment with the Prime Minister to apprise him of the tragedy.
