Mysurean to head global body of dermatologists

Dr Venkataram Mysuru, a native of the city, has been elected president of the Illinois-based Dermatologists and Aesthetic Surgeons International League (DASIL), recently. He is the first Indian dermatologist to rise to the top position in the global body.

He is a hair transplant surgeon and dermatopathologist.

Dr Venkataram, served in the Indian Air force earlier and was president of­ Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists (2015), Association of Cutaneous Surgeons of India (2013) and Association of Hair Restoration Surgeons of India (2013).

An honorary FRCP from the Royal College of Glasgow, he is a fellow of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgeons and Asian Academy of Dermato Venereologists.

He is an international mentor for American Society of Dermatosurgery and a Diplomate in Dermatopathology from The Royal College of Pathologists, London. He worked in several countries until 2003, before returning to India and setting up Venkat Center for Skin and Plastic Surgery (Venkat Charmalaya - Centre for Advanced Dermatology), in Bengaluru. He also runs a special skin clinic, Shraddha, for the poor.

He has also written several books.

DASIL, a non-profit professional organisation founded seven years ago for global advancement of knowledge in dermatologic and aesthetic surgery, provides education, training and conducts research in the field of Dermatosurgery across the globe.

Dr Venkatram said, he will use his position to help the doctors at large, Indian doctors in particular and to explore
newer techniques in the field and for the benefit of poor patients.
