No plan to conduct CET online, this year: KEA

The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has dropped its plan to conduct the Common Entrance Test online this year citing lack of infrastructure and time. A senior KEA official told DH, “It’s already January. We have to go through the various options and decide on the service provider. Also, there are some issues to be addressed. We cannot take chance at this point in time. Later we will be blamed if anything goes wrong in the process.”

On Wednesday, Higher Education Minister G T Devegowda had announced the decision of holding CET online, after which questions were raised about implementation from this year. However, on Thursday the minister clarified that he did not mention the year but just said all the exams conducted by KEA, including CET, would be made online.

“I did not mention the year. We want to make it transparent. We will discuss with the KEA officials and take a call from when it can be implemented,” he told DH.

The KEA official added, “We are also not sure about the infrastructure that we have in our state. With lakhs of students across the country taking the exam, we are not sure whether we really have the infrastructure to handle it. So, it won’t be possible for us to implement the online system, this year.”
