Last Updated 09 November 2018, 17:32 IST

The district administration swung into action and launched an operation to catch a leopard on Friday after its movement at Hindalco Industries at Yamnapur on the city outskirts came to light.

The animal's movement was recorded by CCTV cameras at Syndicate Bank at the factory premises. The leopard was found moving in front of the bank around midnight on Thursday. The movement came to light while the bank officials were checking the footage as part of routine exercise.

A few morning walkers also claimed to have sighted the leopard's movement. The forest department launched the search operation after verifying claims and the footage.

A cage was brought to lay the trap which has been placed near a water body in the forest area adjoining the factory.

“We will capture the wild cat,” said Assistant Conservator of Forest S M Sangolli.

The department is taking the help of local residents and pig catchers for the operation.
