Property tax rebate likely to be extended

BBMP collects Rs 75 crore since March this year

According to Mayor S K Nataraj, the extension of the rebate period which was to officially end on April 30, may be extended.

Penalty

Citizens could receive a rebate of five per cent if the tax is paid within the period.
Citizens however, can pay the property tax without penalty till May, after which a two per cent penalty will be imposed, the Mayor said.

Rs 75 cr collected

Currently, the Palike has accrued nearly Rs 75 crore for  2010-11 since March this year.
The officials are now awaiting the debate to be taken up in the BBMP Council on Friday, as the extension of rebate dates are to be approved by the corporators. The decision was anticipated as there were problems in collection of the property tax for this year.
