Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Friday slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for calling Bengaluru a “garbage city”, a day after he accused the Siddaramaiah government of destroying the cityscape.

“Calling Bengaluru, the garden city and the pride of India a garbage city is insulting,” Rahul tweeted.

He also attached an image detailing the money spent by the Congress-led UPA government and compared it with the funding provided by the BJP-led NDA government on urban infrastructure.

“Building lies comes naturally to you, but you seem to find building cities very difficult. The data nails your lies,” Rahul said.

Rahul claimed that the Congress-led UPA provided 1100% more funds to Karnataka's cities as compared with the Modi government.

He said the UPA government spent Rs 6,570 crore for developing urban infrastructure in Karnataka against Rs 598 crore given by the Modi government.

Addressing a rally at Kengeri on the fringes of Bengaluru, Modi attacked the Siddaramaiah government for "turning India’s Silicon Valley into a sin valley and Bengaluru into a garbage city”.
