Ramesh Jarkiholi sex scandal: Police on the lookout for woman

Last Updated 17 August 2021, 07:06 IST

The police are yet to register an FIR in the Ramesh Jarkiholi sleaze tape case. They are making efforts to trace the woman appearing in the video.

According to the police, the clips provided by activist Dinesh Kallahalli appear to have been edited as per a preliminary analysis.

“We are verifying the source of the video, who recorded and edited it and who gave it to Kallahalli,” said a senior official from the Cubbon Park station.

“The woman in the video is said to have moved out of the paying guest accommodation at RT Nagar. Kallahalli has also not revealed the name of the relative or the woman herself, so that we can contact them and record their statements. If we register an FIR and there is no statement from the woman, the case won’t stand in court,” the officer said.

The Cubbon Park police served a notice on Kallahalli on Wednesday, asking him to appear before them for questioning as they need more information about his complaint.

On Wednesday, Kallahalli welcomed the government’s decision to seek Jarkiholi’s resignation. He told media persons that he had faith in the police and the government that they would investigate the case thoroughly and take necessary action.

“I have provided them with whatever I had. If they call me again, I will cooperate with them,” he said.

He said he had more videos of another minister and two prominent leaders indulging in illegal acts, but would not release them or file a complaint now. Kallahalli said he would take advice from his advocates and then file a complaint at the right
time.

The activist has approached Ramanagara superintendent of police S Girish, seeking protection to him and his family, as he was receiving threats after filing the complaint. Girish has reportedly directed Kallahalli to file a complaint with the jurisdictional police.

Kallahalli, in his complaint, said he had been receiving threats from Jarkiholi and his followers. A group of unknown people are following him near his house and wherever he goes, it said.

A pro-Kannada organisation has filed a complaint with the Cubbon Park police against Kallahalli for releasing the video. It was filed by Puttegowda, president of Kannada Sanghatanegala Okkota.

Kallahalli had filed a complaint in an issue that had nothing to do with him, the complaint said.
