Pejawar Mutt seer Vishwesha Theertha Swami said that the Kerala government should consider the majority opinion instead of blindly following the Supreme Court order on allowing all age-group women to the Sabarimala shrine.

Speaking with mediapersons here on Friday, the seer opposed the interference of court and government in matters related to Hindu religion.

He said that though he was in a dilemma over settling the confusion surrounding the matter, he strongly believed in upholding tradition and following spiritual and religious ideals. He said women are not completely restricted, however, they are not allowed during certain age owing to customs followed in the temple.

“I am always in the forefront to oppose when the tradition is against humanity and is in the form of cruelty. The practice of not allowing women of a certain age group to enter Sabarimala temple is not inhuman. There is nothing wrong in it,” he said and added, “Lord Rama abandoned Sita following mass opinion although he knew he was not right in doing so. Thus, majority opinion should be always given priority,” he said.
