Session comes to close amid BJP uproar

Last Updated 21 December 2018, 17:40 IST

Both houses of the state legislature were adjourned sine die on Friday amid the Opposition BJP staging a dharna on crop loan waiver and urging the government to take up discussion on North Karnataka issues.

The impasse over the crop loan and the North Karnataka issues continued for the second consecutive day with Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy sticking to his stand and refusing to heed to the demand of the BJP that he tender an apology to the leader of the Opposition B S Yeddyurappa.

The BJP had sought the apology stating that Kumaraswamy had insulted Yeddyurappa by accusing him of influencing the nationalised banks and derailing the rollout of the waiver. As soon as the Assembly met, the BJP members trouped into the well of the House demanding the apology and also that the government announce a specific date on which crop loans will be waived.

In the Legislative Council, the BJP continued dharna demanding a discussion on the problems faced by the North Karnataka region. When repeated requests by the presiding officers of the two Houses – Speaker K R Ramesh Kumar in the Assembly and Chairman K Prathap Chandra Shetty in the Council – went in vain, they adjourned the houses sine die.
