Shobha mam, Dhananjay sir teach poll rules to KJP men

Last Updated 25 March 2013, 17:11 IST

KJP candidates for the Assembly polls, whose names figured in the first list released recently by party president B S Yeddyurappa, turned “students” for a few hours on Monday.

While V Dhananjaya Kumar sir (KJP campaign committee chairman) took the candidates through various nuances and formalities  of electoral politics, Shobha Karandlaje madam (former minister) took a session on the issues the party needs to take to the people in the run-up to the polls.

The first list of 69 KJP candidates is a mix of those with electoral experience and freshers. While around 30 of the 69 candidates had previously successfully contested the Assembly polls, Monday’s exercise was meant mainly for those who were testing electoral waters for the first time.

The candidates were advised to take precautionary measures to ensure that their name and those of their proposers are included in the voters’ list and that they disclose the assets and liabilities properly while filing their nomination papers.

Earlier, inaugurating the workshop, Yeddyurappa hit out at his detractors in the BJP stating that the “calibre” of its leaders would be revealed on May 8 when counting of votes would be taken up. “I do not want to comment now. The electorate will decide the fate of these people,” Yeddyurappa said.

Several BJP leaders, including deputy chief minister K S Eshwarapppa had hit out at Yeddyurappa at the party’s election rallies in Haveri and Shimoga on Sunday.

Yeddyurappa claimed minority communities were evincing interest in his party. The party manifesto would be released by March end, he said.
