Some goodies for sulking Shimoga

Last Updated 24 February 2011, 17:28 IST

While sceptics might see the move as a ‘peace offering’ to the people of Shimoga who have been crying for infrastructure development, others might see it as part of the overall State development projects.

Apart from the allocation of Rs 120 crore for the Shimoga airport, the State Budget for the year 2011-12 has also allocated Rs 35 crore for the development of a connecting road from Shimoga Airport to Sringeri leading up to Rambhapuri. The Budget has also placed aside Rs 100 crore for  ring road for Shimoga.

Also taking a share of the allocation from the infrastructure projects under a PPP model estimated to be Rs 1,523 crore is the Shimoga-Hangal stretch.

Shimoga was also a beneficiary from the joint ventures undertaken by the State government along with Centre over the last three years with a converted broad gauge railway line connecting the constituency with Talaguppa.
