Stakes high for BSY, KSE in Shimoga

Elections to the Shimoga City Municipal Council (CMC) have become a matter of prestige for Deputy Chief Minister K S Eshwarappa, who is also the Shimoga City MLA, and KJP President B S Yeddyurappa, who too hails from the district.

The two are leaving no stone unturned to ensure the victory of their candidates in the polls slated for March 7. For the first time in their long political careers, the two leaders are campaigning against one another in the civic polls.

The BJP is striving to prevent the KJP from opening its account in the Shimoga CMC. But, the KJP is making all efforts to ensure that BJP’s strength declines significantly in the CMC.

Yeddyurappa is working hard to ensure that his second political innings starts on a victorious note. He also wants to prove that the BJP’s future in the district is bleak without him.

The BJP, however, has decided to demoralise the KJP workers in Shimoga, by repeatedly stating that it never considered the fledgling party its rival.

The Congress is hoping to take advantage of the KJP-BJP duel. The entry of KJP may harm the prospects of JD(S). BSR Congress has hardly any presence here.
However, the current political situation is such that it will not be a cakewalk for any party.

Yeddyurappa is relying heavily on the development projects that were launched in the City during his tenure as chief minister.

He is also hopeful that voters would back the KJP, no matter who the candidate is. He wants to prove through this election that his writ runs large in his home district even after his exit from the BJP.
