Last Updated 18 December 2015, 19:45 IST

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has written to his Goa counterpart Laxmikant Parsekar seeking his appointment to meet with a delegation led by State Water Resources Minister to discuss the Mahadayi issue.

Stating that the extreme drought conditions had resulted in agitations in Gadag, Dharwad, Bagalkot and Belagavi for over four months, the chief minister said that there has been no reprieve for the farmers. The next hearing of the Mahadayi Water Disputes Tribunal is scheduled for February 23, 2016.

“Pending the resolution of the issue, people of the State are of the opinion that both riparian States should discuss and resolve the matter amicably so that the historical peaceful co-existence between both States continue to foster,” the letter adds.

The delegation will also comprise leaders of Opposition parties in the legislature, legislators and representatives of farmers.
