Siddaganga Mutt head pontiff Shivakumara Swami will be given full state honours during his last rites, Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy announced on Monday.
Orders have been issued to declare a 3-day mourning period, Kumaraswamy said. The national flag will fly half-mast on all government buildings with no official entertainment programmes.
In addition, the government has also announced a state-wide holiday for all schools, colleges and government hospitals.
Shivakumara Swami, the head pontiff of the five-centuries-old Siddaganga mutt, passed away on Monday at 11:44 am at the age of 111. He was suffering from lung ailments. The final rites of the seer will be performed at 4:30 pm on Tuesday. “Buses will be arranged in every village for people who want to visit the Mutt to pay their final respect,” the chief minister told reporters.
It was also announced that there will be no film screenings tomorrow.
