Thundershowers bring down temperature in few dists

A few places in the state received good rainfall on Friday, bringing in the much-needed respite from the scorching sun.

Chikkaballapur city and the surrounding regions received heavy to moderate rainfall in the evening, accompanied with gusty winds, lightning and thunder. Power supply was affected for some time.

Mysuru city received moderate showers, accompanied with gusty winds, thunder and lightning, leading to power disruption in a few parts of the city. The city had witnessed downpour on Thursday too, which left several electricity poles damaged and at least 10 trees uprooted in Saraswathipuram, near Hotel Airlines, on Hunsur Road, on Sita Vilas Road and many other places. Branches of at least 50 trees were broken in several parts of the city.

Srirangapatna and Nagamangala in Mandya district received moderate rainfall. Strong winds left as many as 250 trees uprooted and roofs of many houses were damaged in various parts of Nagamangala taluk.

Parts of Hassan district received good rainfall on Thursday night. An armory constructed during the Hoysala rule during the 14th century, which was in a dilapidated condition, collapsed at Banavara.

Shankar Nagappa Havali (38) died, and two others, Jagannath Eranna, a resident of Aurad in Bidar district, and Revanasiddappa Nagappa Sugur, a resident of Kamalapur villare, were injured, as lightning struck them at Kamalapur village in Kalaburagi taluk on Friday evening.

The three had arrived to Kamalapur to attend the marriage of Ginnemma's daughter on May 29. Lunch was organised as part of the pre-wedding rituals. As the skies opened up, accompanied with gusty winds, thunder and lightning, the plates and other utensils began falling. The trio rushed out of house to gather them, when they incident occurred.

Lakshman (32), a shepherd and a native of Harlapur village in Kundagol taluk of Dharwad district, was killed as lightning struck him, while he was grazing sheep on the outskirts of Kombali village in Huvina Hadagali taluk of Ballari district on Thursday. A case has been booked in this regard at the town police station.

Mohan (28), a resident of Malekote, died when he was struck by lightning at Nagaralu in Kadur taluk of Chikkamagaluru district on Thursday.
