Village residents have expressed outrage at the negligence of the Forest department in leaving the mortal remains of Madhu, who was killed by a maneater tiger, in the forest overnight.

This resulted in the tiger dragging away the body again and consuming it. The incident has created panic among the people.

Severed head and parts of the body of Madhu were found in the forest coming under DB Kuppe Gram Panchayat limits on Monday evening. The spot mahazar could not be conducted as it had turned dark. Forest officials deputed a watcher at the spot to keep a vigil and had decided to
conduct the mahazar on Tuesday.

However, as it rained on Monday night, the watcher returned to the village. When the residents returned to the spot in the morning, they found the body parts missing. They had been dragged for around 150 metres and consumed.

A search was conducted and the body was found inside the forest. Later, the last rites were conducted.

DB Kuppe Gram Panchayat member Tirupati has alleged negligence by the Forest department. Madhu leaves behind his wife Bhagya, 24, sons Dileep,6 and Shivappa 3, and two-year-old daughter Bhavani.

Enraged residents took the forest officials to task. Nagarahole chief conservator of forests P N Narayanaswamy pacified the villagers and promised a compensation of Rs five lakh to Madhu’s wife and a job to his brother.
