TN couple found murdered in ‘honour killing’

In what is said to be a case of honour killing, a 19-year-old woman and her husband from Tamil Nadu were hacked to death allegedly by her relatives, and the bodies were disposed of in the SBR lake near Shivanasamudra.

Police said, Swathi (19) and Nandeesh (26), both natives of Choodagowdanahalli in Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu were said to have murdered by girl’s father Srinivas and relatives Venkatesh and Ashwath.

Nandeesh, belonging to SC community and Swathi from backward community were in love for two years. They got married at a temple three months ago, despite opposition from both the families, and eloped, police said.

Swathi’s relatives brought the couple to Shivanasamudra under the pretext of sorting out the issue. They murdered the couple and disposed of the bodies in the SBR lake on November 11. The bodies were spotted four days later, police added.

The Mandya district police took up the case and found that the couple were murdered by girl’s relatives during the probe. The police have arrested girl’s father Srinivas and two of her relatives. Hunt is on to nab two others involved in the crime.
