I-T raids on Cong leaders' houses in Bagalkot

The Income-Tax sleuths raided the residences of persons close to the district Congress leaders here on Saturday.

The houses of DCC bank manager Arif Karnekar and first division assistant Yasin Tumbaramatti were raided by the I-T officials. Later, the team also searched documents in the bank.

Karnekar was appointed personal assistant to district in-charge minister Shivananda Patil, few days ago. Congress leader Ajayakumara Saranaik is the president of DCC bank. The search was on till evening.

Meanwhile, I-T officials are said to have seized Rs 10.75 lakh from the residences of associates and relatives of JD(S) candidate Dr Sunita Devananda Chavan. According to local people, two teams of officers arrived in two private vehicles and conducted the raid with the help of local police.

JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda and Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy had campaigned in various parts of district on Friday.
