UoM faces flak for ‘repeating’ question paper

Last Updated 25 December 2018, 16:56 IST

The University of Mysore is in a fresh row over an alleged question paper repeat. The 2017 question paper for the subject ‘Introduction to Education Studies’, and the paper for the exam conducted by the Department of Education for the first semester students of Master of Education (MEd) a couple of days ago, was the same.

Students appearing for the exam four days ago were surprised to find the question paper identical to that of the previous year. All the questions in the paper were same when compared to the question paper of 2017. Not only were the questions a repeat but their order too remained the same. Except for the year of examination 2018, the serial number of the questions, the words and sentences were also identical. A few students have suspected that there is a possibility of question paper leak.

Speaking to DH, Professor K B Praveen of UoM said, “Sometimes such repetitions are common. Three sets of question papers will be prepared. While one set of question paper will be opened, the other sets will be used for the next year. We have to ask questions only related to the subject. There is no irregularity in this,” he said.

The question paper has nine questions for 70 marks. Forty students are pursuing first year MEd for the year 2018-19.

“The Board of Examiners will be responsible if all the questions have been repeated. The members who have framed the question paper should also take the responsibility. Necessary action would be taken,” said Professor J Somashekar, Registrar (Evaluation).
