The University of Mysore would introduce electric vehicles on its Manasagangotri campus from January.

The eco-friendly decision has been taken in the Syndicate meeting, chaired by Vice-Chancellor G Hemanth Kumar, at the Crawford Hall, recently.

Several institutions have come forward to donate the eco-friendly vehicles. The university should not lag behind in this area. Hence, on an experimental basis, the university has planned to run three electric vehicles on the campus.

Vice-Chancellor G Hemanth Kumar, said, “The vehicles will be stationed at three entrance gates of Manasagangotri. The electric vehicles will travel between all these gates. The traveling cost on this vehicle would be Rs 5 per person per trip. Specially-abled persons can travel free of cost.”

“The service will be useful to parents of students when they come to the campus to meet their children. Even the students can avail this facility. We will also introduce more such vehicles based on the response,” he said.

He informed that eight people can travel on the vehicle at a time. Even the number of government buses plying on the University campus is less.

Registrar R Rajanna and Registrar (Evaluation) J Somashekar were present.
