Vehicles stuck on Charmadi

The breakdown of a lorry on Charmadi Ghat in the wee hours of Tuesday resulted in traffic jam on the stretch for more than five hours and caused inconvenience to travellers.

A lorry laden with vegetables travelling from Hassan to Mangaluru developed technical snag after its axle got cut on the third curve of the Ghat at 2 am and remained on the middle of the road.

As a result, the movement of vehicles on the stretch was affected till 7 am. The Banakal and Dharmasthala police rushed to the spot. The lorry was pushed to the side of the road using an earthmover to facilitate the movement of vehicles on the stretch.

Following the traffic jam, vehicles remained stranded on either side of the stretch for nearly three km. All the KSRTC buses were stopped at Kottigehara and were diverted to pass through Kudremukh to reach Mangaluru. The density of vehicles on the stretch reduced by 9 am.
