Water shortage hits power generation at RTPS

Last Updated 03 January 2019, 17:52 IST

Power generation from units 2 and 8 at the Raichur Thermal Power Station (RTPS) has been stopped on Thursday due to an acute shortage of water.

Unit 7 has been taken up for maintenance while unit 1 has been closed due to a snag in the transformer. With that only four units are functioning. Power generation at the RTPS has come down to 600 MW.

At present, the thermal plant has water enough to run four units for a day. The authorities have initiated the process to get water from Narayanapur reservoir, according to Raichur Thermal Power Station sources.
