Why is PM mum on Dalit rapes, attacks?: Rahul

Last Updated 21 September 2018, 11:47 IST

Taking a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Friday questioned his silence on key issues such as rapes, attacks on Dalits and bank scams.

Addressing a poll campaign meeting of the Congress candidates from Chittapur, Chincholi (SC) and Sedam seats held at Kalagi (a newly created taluk), Rahul asked Modi to ‘Nudidante Nade.’

“Modiji doesn’t speak when their people beat up Dalits in Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and other places,” he stated.

The prime minister’s slogan of ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padao’ has undergone change and now it is ‘Beti Bachao BJP ke MLAs se.’

Modi didn’t speak when a girl in Uttar Pradesh was raped by a BJP MLA and an 8-year-old girl was raped in Jammu and Kashmir, he said.

Rahul claimed that Modi has told in a foreign country that he can’t protect the women in India.

The Congress chief said Modi doesn’t speak about the Rs 15 lakh that he promised to deposit in the bank account of every person and two crore jobs he had promised to create every year.

On fight against corruption, Rahul said that when fraudsters such as Nirav Modi, Vijay Mallya and Mehul Choksi ran away cheating banks, Modi didn’t speak.

“BJP leader Amit Shah’s son (Jay) turned Rs 50,000 into Rs 80 crore. Even then Modi didn’t speak,” Rahul said.

Reddy brothers

The Congress president said that Modi will not tell that Reddy brothers, who looted Rs 35,000 crore from state, have been given 8 seats. “We put them in jail but Modi got them out,” and now he wants to send them to the Vidhana Soudha. “We will not allow them to enter the Vidhana Soudha,” he said.

He said the Congress will defeat the BJP and come to power in the state.

Rahul said that Modi doesn’t have any issues to speak about in Karnataka as he himself has said that employment generation is high in state and, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has said that Karnataka has good roads. “...hence Modi ji is saying ulta seeda (baseless) things about me and Kharge ji.” Modi is also resorting to personal attacks, he said. “But Rahul Gandhi will not make any personal attack against Modi...I will speak to him with a lot of respect...because of the position he occupies.”
