Wild cat surfaces in the villages of Sirsi taluk

The Forest officials have confirmed that the wild animal spotted in the last few days at Devanalli village and the surrounding areas in Sirsi taluk, was indeed a tiger and not a leopard, as suspected.

The residents, petrified over the fact that at least six animals were killed by the wild cat so far, have urged the Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF), N D Sudarshan, to capture the tiger.

The residents have stated that a few wild animals too were “missing” ever since the wild cat had surfaced during the day-time in the grassland region. This was enough evidence to prove that the wild cat had strayed into the region and was not from the nearby forests, they added. “The tiger has not been captured on the CCTV cameras installed by the Forest department. Based on the information provided by the local people, and the pug marks, it was concluded that it was a tiger. Permission of the higher officials is a must to capture the wild cat,” the DCF said.
