A 17-year-old student committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree near the Pre-matric Boys’ Hostel, run by social welfare department, at Kooradi in Brahmavar.
The deceased is identified as Mallesh, hailing from Koppal.
His friend Mahesh, 17, a native of Vijayapura, has gone missing since Mallesh committed suicide.
It is said that Mallesh and Mahesh had planned to quit education in fear of forthcoming SSLC examination and decided to move out of hostel located in Kooradi village in Brahmavar.
Mallesh sought permission from the warden Leela Naik to allow him go to a medical shop, but the warden sent another inmate of the hostel to get medicine for Mallesh.
Upset Mallesh hanged himself from the tree in a deserted area near the hostel.
A case is registered by Brahmavar police station.
