Students demand carryover system

Karnataka All College Students' Association president Dinaker Shetty addresses the protesters in Udupi on Wednesday.

Various diploma college students staged a protest at Eshwarnagar, Manipal, demanding bus passes to poor students and to introduce a carryover system.

The protest was held under the aegis of district All College Students' Union. The students said that their future is in the dark as the carryover system is being scrapped. The government should immediately reintroduce the system.

The students demanded that bus pass be given to all students and the facility should be extended to private students. Government schools and colleges require adequate infrastructure and the government should take measures in the direction. The students added that if quality education is offered in government schools and colleges, everyone would prefer getting an education from there.

Karnataka All College Students' Association president Dinaker Shetty said that several students are deprived of technical education owing to the cancellation of the carryover system. He lamented that despite several attempts made to convince the government about the issue, the latter has failed to take any action. He urged the government to look into the issue and introduce the carryover system in the diploma education.

A memorandum was submitted to the deputy commissioner. Addressing the huge gathering of students District JD(S) president Yogish Shetty assured to hold talks with the concerned ministers over the carryover system and the bus pass. He said he would also bring the issues to the notice of the chief minister.
