Google rolls out August Android update with bug fixes, security patches to Pixel phones

Google has rolled out the August Android update to all the eligible Pixel phones worldwide.

Besides general improvements for system stability and performance improvement, it brings bug fixes and also security patches to address vulnerabilities in the Pixel devices.

The August update resolves an issue where the scheduled dark theme was not working at random times. And, it also addresses the problems where 3-button navigation and gesture navigation sometimes hang in certain conditions.

The new Android update also brings a security patch for the CVE-2025-26784 vulnerability. Though it says the vulnerability is categorised as severe, threat actors may misuse this to perform remote code execution.

This can be done by sending maliciously crafted URL links in messages or email, and without the knowledge of the device owner, it can get installed. The malware tracks the victim and transfers sensitive information from the compromised device to the server run by threat actors. Or the latter can perform a Denial of Service (DoS) attack to disrupt the normal functioning of the device.

The key details of the vulnerability are still kept under wraps, as it may offer leeway for threat actors to exploit the vulnerability if the owners procrastinate on updating their Pixel phones.

Google usually wait for an extended time to reveal the specific details of the security vulnerability and let the Pixel phone owners update to the latest version.

The new update is being deployed in phases. So, it will take a few days to reach all the devices in every corner of the world.

Step 1: Open your device's Settings app.

Step 2: Tap System and then Software Update.

Step 3: You'll find your updated status. Follow any steps on the screen.
