Reliance Jio launches JioPC that can turn TV into computer

For a limited time, JioPC comes with a subscription plan starting as low as Rs 400 per month.

Reliance Jio on Tuesday (July 29) launched the JioPC, a cloud-based virtual desktop service that can transform a regular TV into a computer.

JioPC comes with a set-top box (with a quad-core processor, Ubuntu Linux OS and 8GB RAM) and needs to be connected to a television or any regular display monitor. And, users need a keyboard and a mouse to operate the TV as a computer. For video calling, the user has to buy a webcam accessory.

JioPC comes with a subscription plan starting at Rs 400 per month (for a limited time only). With this, users get a 1-month free trial and get access to Jio Workspace, Microsoft Office (browser) and 100 GB cloud storage.

Existing Jio AirFiber and JioFiber service users can activate without any extra payment.

As far as the user privacy and security is concerned, the company says it offers Network-level security against cyber threats such as virus, malware, and JioPC is hack-proof.

JioPC subscription plans:

Monthly plan: Rs 599 per month + GST with unlimited usage

Two-month plan: Rs 999 + GST with unlimited usage

Three-month plan: Rs 1,499 + GST (with an additional one month free subscription. In total, four months)

Six-month plan: Rs 2,499 + GST (with an additional two-month free subscription. In total, eight months)

Annual plan: Rs 4,599 + GST (with an additional three-month free subscription, In total, 15 months)

All the JioPC plans also include free access to the Adobe Express Premium editing platform in addition to 100GB cloud storage.

Here's how to set up JioPC in your home:

Step 1: Once you get the JioPC system at home, just power on your Jio set-top box and go to the Apps section.

Step 2: Launch the JioPC app and click ‘Get Started’

Step 3: Plug in your keyboard and mouse

Step 4: Sign in using your linked contact number, or enter details to register

Step 5: Log in and start using your cloud computer instantly
