WhatsApp will soon let you scan QR codes to subscribe channels

WhatsApp users can use phone's camera to just scan QR code to subscribe to their favourite channels on the messenger app.

WhatsApp is one most of the popular messenger app on all mobile and web platforms with more than two billion active users worldwide.

With launch of Telegram-inspired Channels in 2023, WhatsApp has been able build new ways for celebrities, corporate brands and even news publications to engage with their subscribers actively than ever before.

Now, WhatsApp is planning to make more easy for users to subscribe to channels with QR code, reported WhatsApp community forum WABetaInfo citing the latest WhatsApp iOS beta.

With the QR code, the users have to just scan with phone’s camera to subscribe to their favourite channels. It comes really handy for print media publication to increase their subscriber faster and more efficient than ever before.

Even government agencies can use QR codes on social media platforms and physical advertisement boards in cities and villages, to help people subscribe to official channels to get direct information related to public welfare schemes.

In a related development, WhatsApp recently announced a new feature message draft indicator. It will highlight chat, which was half written and the user forgot to send.

To help people quickly locate them, a “Draft” indicator will now appear for any unfinished messages and move them to the top of the chats list.

Meta-owned entity is also testing new reverse image search feature to curb misinformation on its messenger app.

Lately, there has been a surge in misinformation shared on messenger apps. Artificially morphed photos are being misused to malign not just high-profile people in the fields of politics and movies, but also common people over bitter separation from relationships. 

With this reverse search feature, people will be able to verify if the image shared on WhatsApp is fake or genuine and not fall for misinformation.
