Tipu Jayanti: Notices served

Last Updated 16 December 2018, 19:16 IST

Condemning the move of the police to serve notices to innocents on the charges of disrupting peace during Tipu Jayanti celebrations, members of various organisations staged a protest in front of Tahsildar’s office on Monday.

“Without having complete details on anti social elements, the police personnel are engaged in harassing all those who oppose Tipu Jayanti under Section 107 of Code of Criminal Procedure,” RTI activist Harris said.

As a precautionary measure, the police personnel are collecting bonds from those who were involved in various clashes in the district in the past. However, notices have been served to innocents as well, he said.

“Over a hundred people were called to furnish bonds that they will not take part in any untoward incidents during Tipu Jayanti celebrations. Tahsildar Kusuma even made them wait for long,” advocate Krishnamurthy said.
