Udupi district records 70.3% polling

The Udupi district recorded 70.3% polling in the Urban Local Body elections held on Friday. Udupi CMC recorded 68.52%, Saligrama Town Panchayat — 75.26%, Kundapur Town Municipal Council — 73.81% and Karkala Town Municipal Council — 71.1%.

At 9 am, the polling percentage in Udupi district was 14.25. Udupi CMC recorded 13.58%, Saligrama Town Panchayat reported 17.68%, Kundapur Town Municipal Council recorded 13.07 % and Karkala Town Municipal Council 16.63%. At 11 am, Udupi CMC recorded 30.04%, Saligrama Town Panchayat reported 37.64%, Kundapur Town Municipal Council recorded 29.37% and Karkala Town Municipal Council 34.29% and the overall polling percentage in the district is 31.14%. At 1 pm, Udupi CMC recorded 43.82%, Saligrama Town Panchayat reported 50.93%, Kundapur Town Municipal Council recorded 46.20% and Karkala Town Municipal Council 48.52% and the overall polling percentage in the district is 45.40%. At 3 pm, Udupi CMC recorded 54.88%, Saligrama Town Panchayat reported 62.53%, Kundapur Town Municipal Council recorded 57.97% and Karkala Town Municipal Council 58.17% and the overall polling percentage in the district is 56.43%.

At 9.35 am in Gundmi government higher primary school in Saligrama, 145 votes had been polled, out of 595 votes at Yakshimutt polling booth. While 189 had voted out of 697 voters in Challamakki polling booth. At 9.50 am in Saligrama Pete polling booth, as many as 124 votes had been polled out of 588 voters. In Bhagavathi polling booth, out of 921, 233 had voted by around 9.55 am. In Paduholli polling booth, 273 had voted out of 955 by 10 am. In Hindu Higher Primary School in Kundapur, 214 votes had been polled by 10.45 am out of 788 votes. By 11.30 pm, 317 had voted out of 803 votes at Central ward polling booth in Kundapur. At Mangalore tile factor polling booth, as many as 454 out of 995 voters had cast their votes by 11.55 am in Kundapur. In Kodi lighthouse polling booth, as many as 408 voters had voted out of 881 by 12.55 am. In Gopalapura ward in Udupi, 1,771 voters cast their vote by 2 pm. There were 3,860 voters in the three polling booths in the vicinity.

A total of 261 contestants are in the fray in the polls held for the four urban local bodies in the district. The counting of the votes will take place on September 3. In Udupi CMC, there are 35 wards and 91 candidates are contesting the polls. In Kundapur Town Municipal Council, there are 23 wards and 68 candidates are contesting. As many as 56 candidates are contesting for 23 wards in Karkala Town Municipal Council polls and in 16 wards of Saligrama Town Panchayat, 46 candidates are in the fray.
