Veerarani Abbakka Pratishtana launch on August 4

Veerarani Abbakka Rashtriya Pratishtana will be launched in the city to create awareness about the contribution of Ullal queen Abbakka for the independence struggle in Tulunadu.

Pratishtana general secretary Bhaskar Rai Kukkuvalli said on Wednesday that the objective of establishing the Pratishtana was to enlighten people about the patriotic values for which the queen stood by fighting the Portuguese. The Pratishtana will be launched at a function at Town Hall on August 4.

District in-charge minister U T Khader will inaugurate the programme. Former vice chancellor of Kannada University, Hampi, Prof B A Viveka Rai will confer “Veerarani Abbakka Seva Puraskara” on social worker Suvasini Damodar of Babbukatte. Writer and researcher A V Navada will deliver a keynote address. Various troups would present dance drama and Yakshagana on the occasion.

Pratishtana President Harikrishna Punaroor, Chief Convener K Ravindra Shetty Ulidottu, vice presdient Namita Shyam and organising secretary Thonse Pushkal Kumar were present.
