<p class="bodytext">The villagers in Chennenahalli and Chikka Pattanagere have initiated a move to clean a canal that joins a lake in Kadur taluk.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The canal from Modalada Kere in Chikka Pattanagere was filled with silt and weeds and this was affecting the easy flow of water.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Owing to the drought-like situation the last few years, no one initiated measures to clean the canals.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Kadur has received good rain in the recent past. As a result, Madagada Kere is almost full in Kadur and the farmers are looking forward to the filling of other lakes.</p>.<p class="bodytext">From Madagada Kere, water flows to Huligondirayana Kere through a canal at Chikka Pattanagere.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Noticing the poor condition of the canal, Saraswathipura GP President C V Anand along with villagers took up a drive to clean the canal covering a distance of 10-km.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Basaveshwara Kere Neeru Balakedarara Sangha President C T Diwakar said, “We had struggled the last few years following the drought-like situation in the taluk. The villagers voluntarily came forward to clean the canal, which has helped rainwater to flow easily to fill the lake.”</p>
