Only 5 Covid-19 cases, prepared to contain surge: Andhra Pradesh official

Andhra Pradesh has only 5 active cases ofCovid-19 as on Monday but the State was fully prepared to handle any eventuality, Principal Secretary (Health) M T Krishna Babu said. Of the 5,548 RT-PCR tests conducted in the State since December 21, only 5 turned positive for coronavirus, Krishna Babu told reporters here.

Some in China return to regular activity after Covid infections

Some people in the Chinese cities of Beijing, Shanghai and Wuhan braved the cold and a rise inCovid-19 infections to return to regular activity on Monday, raising the prospect of a boost to the economy as more recover from infections.

Among those who gathered to sled or ice skate on a frozen lake in the capital's Shichahai Lake Park, some were upbeat about the opening-up after China dropped stringent "zero-Covid" measures on Dec. 7 to adopt a strategy of living with the virus.

No BF.7 Omicron variant in TN as per genome sequencing results

The genome sequencing report of the six international passengers who had landed at various international airports in Tamil Nadu has reported no BF.7 variant of Omicron.

Tamil Nadu Health Minister, Ma Subramanian said that the two China-returned passengers, who testedCovid-19 positive, were affected by BA5.2. One passenger each from Muscat, Kuwait, and Bangkok was identified with BA.2 strain of Omicron. Another passenger, who arrived from Muscat and tested positive has the XBB.1 strain of Omicron.

Negative Covid report must even for flyers to India transiting through China, 5 other nations

A negativeCovidreport is a must for passengers transiting through China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Thailand, irrespective of their originating countries, before landing at any Indian airport, the Union Health Ministry said Monday.

In a letter to states on Monday, Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said that in the context of the evolving trajectory ofCOVID-19 cases in some countries, especially China, Singapore, Hong Kong, the Republic of Korea, Thailand and Japan, the guidelines were revised and came into effect from January 1.
