UK skydiver takes her life post-breakup, does not open parachute while falling from 10,000 ft

A 32-year-old skydiver from the UK took her life by jumping from 10,000 ft, a Daily Mail report said. The incident took place a day after she broke up with her boyfriend, the report added.

Jade Damarell, reportedly an experienced parachutist with over 400 jumps, hit the ground during a jump in Shotton Colliery, Co Durham, and died instantly.

After the incident, police ruled out any suspicious circumstances that surrounded her death, the report added.

Emergency services had rushed to the site where she had hit the ground, but she was declared dead on the spot.

The publication mentioned that Jade was a resident of South Wales, and had broken up with her 26-year-old boyfriend named Ben Goodfellow, the night before the incident took place. Her boyfriend is also believed to be a skydiver, and they had been dating for over six months and lived together at a property near the airfield which was rented to parachutists.

The publication, quoting a friend of the couple, said, “The two of them were inseparable.spent all their time together, they didn't really engage with anyone else. They did skydives together all the time. They had been living in the lodgings since Christmas and had been together a couple more months before that. The night before Jade died, Ben called off the relationship. He went to work the next day, and that's when Jade fell to her death.”

It was initially assumed that Jade’s death was a tragic accident, but the SkyHigh Skydiving later said in a statement that it was ‘a deliberate act’, following an investigation revealing that there was ‘no reason to suspect equipment failure', the report further added.

A friend of Jade also mentioned that the police has found a suicide note referencing her break-up, thus making it clear that she deliberately chose to not deploy the parachute while skydiving, which resulted in her death.

Jade had completed over 80 jumps this year, the report added.
