'Why are Indian men considered undesirable in the West?': Netizens call out racial prejudice on US dating apps

Reddit user, RealityWilling5024 uploaded a post titled, 'Why are Indian men considered undesirable in the West?' which went viral as he called US dating apps a 'nightmare'. "I rarely get any likes on dating apps, even after months," he shared.

The user further commented "Dating apps have us at the bottom of the totem pole, and an OKCupid study stated Indian women in the West are least likely to reply to a message from an Indian man. Why is this the case?"

In June, an NRI woman living in Canada shared the aspects of "subtle racism," and wrote about her experience with daily prejudice. "My ID always gets double-checked at concerts. At nail salons, they immediately say ‘It’s expensive’ before I even ask the price," she uploaded.

"We get looks when we go to nice restaurants, like we don’t belong there," she wrote, mentioning how the experiences have become familiar over time and still feels draining after such conversations.

"I was at a spa, and this white lady asked where I was from. I said India. Then she said, ‘Did you learn English after coming here? Your English is exactly like mine.’ I told her I’ve spoken English all my life and she just stared at me until her pedicure was done," she said as she fet unsure on how to respond at such times.

The cases of Indians facing racism across platforms, and countries, is not a new topic. With various cases in the past few months, addressing the bias on public spaces have become a voice for awareness, and the request for change.
