'Yoga hall' at UoM to be reality soon

In view of effectively promoting and disseminating the knowledge of yoga in education, the University of Mysore (UoM) will construct a Yoga Hall, on the premises of the department of Physical Education and Sports Science, in Manasagangotri.

The Yoga Hall will be exclusively dedicated for yoga practice by students.

From several decades, Mysuru city is a pioneer in yoga practice and teaching. Moreover, several people from across the world arrive here for training in yoga from various trainers. The Yoga Hall will measure 36X30 meters in size. According to an official in the department, the Yoga Hall can accommodate more than 200 individuals during an yoga practice. The project will be executed at an estimated cost of Rs 1.25 crore.

Speaking to DH, department of Physical Education and Sports Science P Krishnaiah said, “As there was no exclusive hall to conduct yoga classes, the department had sent a proposal to the UoM. The UoM has given a nod and the engineers have started the work. It is expected to be completed in seven to eight months.”

He informed that the UoM has won a gold medal in Yoga in the year 2017-18 and silver medal in 2016-17 in the all India inter-Yoga championship. In 2018-19, the UoM has secured the second place in men’s and women’s group Yoga competition in the all India inter-Yoga championship held in Chennai at the University of Madras.

He said, “Divya a student of the UoM has secured the second place in Yoga (singles) in the all India inter-Yoga championship.”

As of now, students are practising yoga at the Multi-Purpose Hall on the premises of the department of Physical Education and Sports Science.
